The work of Ayumi Paul consists of site responsive composition, concert, ritual, performance, film and installation. The intrinsic sound of existence is essential to her conceptual approach to creating projects which dedicate to the infinite possibilities of listening.
She trained as a classical violinist at Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin and Indiana University and played concerts at the world’s most sought after concert halls for more than 15 years while developing her own artistic language as a composer. After several years of also performing extensively within the experimental music scene she has in recent years become more widely known in the visual and performative art context too. Her work was presented at Kunsthalle Osnabrück (2016), Esther Schipper (2017), National Gallery Singapore (2018), and Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac Paris (2018).
For 2020 the Philharmonie de Paris had commissioned new music and a new performance of her project We Are We (performance cancelled due to Covid-19) and her first institutional solo exhibition SYMPATHETIC RESONANCE was presented at Kunsthalle Osnabrück.
